Growing up, Wilona Young watched her grandmother operate a successful barbeque restaurant in Chicago. “Seeing her success as a small business owner gave me the inspiration and courage I needed to start my own business.”

Wilona started Chicago’s House of Hoagies out of her home. Soon, the business grew too large, and required a brick-and-mortar location. “My food tells a story. That’s why it will always attract new customers,” Wilona said.

Located in Menasha, Chicago’s House of Hoagies offers delicious Chicago-style hoagies, hot dogs, and more.

Chicago’s House of Hoagies connected with the Wisconsin Women’s Business Initiative Corporation (WWBIC), which loaned them money to support their business. In 2021, they received additional support with a $5,000 grant from Associated Bank and Brewers Community Foundation.

“The grant has helped my business grow and meet business expenses. It has also given me acknowledgement as a black, small business owner.”
